Dish#61 Village Voice blog loves the #12 Sept 2010

Hey Now! The Village Voice food blog, dish#61 loves the #12 black bean hummus, artichichoke, sun dries tomato sandwich. They say: "what makes the No. 12 so memorable is the black bean hummus, which adds earthy depth to the tang of the 'chokes, softens the salinity of the tomatoes, and cuts through the gloriously fatty morass of the cheese." 9/30/10 On Sandwiches blog loves the #38

Great write up from On Sandwiches Blog. They say: "Everything you need to know is right in the name. 195 is the street number of the original Brooklyn location, but it’s the other bit that interests me. Press is so named due to the centerpiece and vast majority of the menu being pressed sandwiches. Indeed, sandwiches get top billing with the restaurant;the bar offerings follow second. Press has a fine beer list, and in terms of non-sandwich items their Belgian fries really are outstanding, but personally I wouldn’t give a tenth of a fig if the sandwiches weren’t good. Well friends, I am happy to say that they are more than good. Press has forty hot sandwiches on offer, plus another half-dozen cold ones. The cold come on toasted Italian bread, while the hot come on an outstanding ciabatta bread. It’s got a wonderful crunch to it and yields perfectly to whatever it holds. 10/15/10 Seriouseats.com loves the #13 sandwich

Via Seriouseats.com... "The #13 Hot Press ($8) at Park Slope's Press 195 is a simple enough caprese sandwich with fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil—simple, but there's nothing wrong with simple. The brittle outside crust and melted mozzarella make it every inch a joy..."

10/29/10 Yahoo! names Press 195 Park Slope top 5 place to eat along marathon route

Hey Now! Great write up in Yahoo! yesterday. We were named top 5 places to eat along the NYC marathon route. They said: "Press 195 sits at about mile five of the Marathon. This restaurant is a favorite for sandwiches with the native New Yorkers. The sandwiches are a work of art at the 195, their grilled lemon marinade chicken with spinach and Fontina cheese is only $8.75. The majority of the sandwiches are under ten dollars. Press 195 has a wine bar, opens at 11:30 a.m. daily and does not take reservation. New Yorkers known where the real good food is and this place is one of them!"

Sept 10, 2010 via The Wingmen

"As you can see by the above picture, the sure do make some good looking Belgian fries. I mean, if I were at a bar and saw those fries, I'd do a shot, walk up to the bar, order the fries a drink and do my best to get their number. I'd probably strike out, but hell, just telling my buddies that I tried with something that hot and failed, now that would be a great story."

NY POST LOVES THE KNISH SANDWICH

Last week we were featured in the daily paper, New York Post, for our Knish sandwiches. “The knish’s crispy edges yield to a pleasingly soft center and, when washed down with one of Press 195’s many microbrews, presents a perfect pub-style meal.” A great article indeed! Click here to read it.

Press 195 Summer 2010 News

Hey Now! Greetings from a steamy Bayside Monday night. Welcome to all the new members of the Press 195 fan group. We are glad to have you! And, click here to access our Fan page on Facebook and become a member, if not one already! We update this section more frequently.

It’s been awhile since our last correspondence and much has been going on in the Press 195 camp. First and foremost, the biggest news to date is the unveiling of store 3! Yes, we are excited to announce that very shortly the doors to our third Press 195 location will be opening in Rockville Centre, Long Island!! We are very excited to venture out East and rock the Long Island world with what will soon to become the best place on the island to grab a sandwich. We are hoping for a mid-fall opening and will keep everybody in the loop thru email or Facebook fan page updates.

In other news, we just finished filming an episode of
Food Paradise, a Chinese-English food travel show that will air December 11, 2010 on the NTD TV Network. The NTD is the largest Chinese-English network across the world, received by 200 million households. In the NYC area the channel can be found on Time Warner 589.

Finally, last week we were featured in the daily paper, New York Post, for our Knish sandwiches in the New York Post. “The knish’s crispy edges yield to a pleasingly soft center and, when washed down with one of Press 195’s many microbrews, presents a perfect pub-style meal.” A great article indeed! Click

Store wise, our great summer continues as there is nothing finer than sitting in one of our backyards with a great sandwich and a fine microbrew. Over in the Bayside store, we have had much success with the limited releases,
Southampton Keller Pils and Coney Island Luna Lager. Both beers have been in great demand and have proved worthy additions to the tap lines. The Park Slope taps currently feature the almighty Lagunitas IPA and upstate NY’s favorite Ommegang Witte among others. C’mon down and try one, and if uncertain always feel free to ask for a sample!

Well we hope you enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer and hope the great weather continues. We look forward to your next visit to our Bayside or Park Slope store and are excited to continue to update you on the forthcoming Rockville Centre store grand opening.

Warm regards,

More blogging and two more great reviews --both from The Feisty Foodie!

This past month we received two great reviews from the Feisty Foodie blog. The first review the writer states "ll say it again: OH MY STARS THAT WAS GOOD. I would order this sandwich again and again. If it were legal, I would marry it." Click here to read the article...

In the second review, which was 6 days later, the author states "I was amazed at how good it tasted; I hadn’t even noticed it on the menu but was super glad I’d asked some other people to help me pick. But DAMN that was GOOD." And she also writes, "I fully intend to continue to visit Press 195 and eat my way through the entire menu!" To read the entire article, click here.

Blogs love us....via Love, Life and Lollipops on April 8 2010

I think everyone in Brooklyn has a blog, which is great if we keep getting these awesome reviews. Via the very original blog "Love, life and lollipops" from April 8, 2010 comes a short, great review of our Brooklyn location. The author writes, "I ordered a veggie knish (sans the mozzerella which I firmly believe doesn’t need it for vegans or others). It’s a square knish cut in half and filled with roasted veggies then closed up and pressed between a panini press! Yum!"

New York Magazine's Grub Street Daily 1/22/2010

The Famous New York Magazine's daily food digest, Grubstreet Daily, featured Press 195 and Crossroads Brewing company. The article stated "With camera-toting bloggers and an ever-churning gossip mill, it’s rare that any morsel of fresh intelligence isn’t instantly chewed up and spat onto the Internet. But unless you frequent Park Slope sandwich shop Press 195, you likely missed the recent unveiling of New York State’s newest brewery."

Travel Channel Man Vs. Food Great Mention!!!

Adam Richman, host of Travel Channel's wildly popular program Man Vs. Food, just released a special feature on his site "Adam's Pick." And guess who was on this mighty list, none other than PRESS 195!!!!

From the article....Adam Richman has been eating his way across America, and there are more than a few famous food spots that he thinks should be at the top of your list. Here’s a taste:

Recessionbites.com loves our burger!

A great mention for our burger! If you have never tried one, you are missing out! We start with a 1/2lb of natural beef and a tasty Brioche roll and go from there! For burger lovers, it doesn't get any better and I will put our burger up against the best and we will be standing tall! Recently I went to the famous Spotted Pig in Manhattan to see what the hype was all about and believe me, our burger knocked there's out in the second round, and I am not talking a TKO, I am talking laying them out!

5 Great Burger Spots in Brooklyn

67 Burger Forte Green

It’s Friday (finally) and Friday to me says RED MEAT, particularly Burgers. But in this Recession what’s the next best thing to eating one? Recalling all the really incredibly tasty ones you’ve had.

Enter Press 195 which is my absolute favorite burger spot in Park Slope Brooklyn. They usually have a great beer list to compliment the food. My favorite burger is the California Burnin’ and it’s out of this state. It’s a healthy size burger topped with homemade guacamole, homemade salsa, Monterey Jack and jalapenos.

HEY NOW !!! TWO SOLID MENTIONS OF PRESS 195 THIS WEEK ALONE!!!!

Hey Now and greetings to all Press 195 fans! Wanted to post the two latest reviews from this week.

First, from October 10th 2009....

"Press 195 In Bayside, NY Will Impress Beer Lovers"

"At Press 195 you can enjoy a vast selection of sandwiches for every taste. Even the most discriminating eater can find something amongst the dozens of offerings. From the ardent carnivore to vegetarians, it’s all here for you. Press 195 also offers the finest selection of beers on Bell."

The next article is from a great blog entitled Amateur Gourmet. This article appeared just a few days ago on Oct. 21st 2009. Click here to read the entire article, here is an excerpt...

Finally, there's Press, which actually rises above all the other daily dining destinations as a place actually worth your time. They serve excellent pressed sandwiches and my favorite--#17--has just four ingredients: ham, brie, apple and mustard. It's a truly great sandwich and one that I will greatly miss as I bide my time in the barren, foodless West Village. (Kidding!)

PRESS 195 MENTION IN TIME OUT MAGAZINE!!!!

From July 23, 2009

I’m officially obsessed

Outrage IPA

This tap beer at Press 195 is a marvel.

Outrage IPA
Photograph: Jeff Gurwin

Like wrap sandwiches and Frappuccinos, I’ve considered panini a fad that’s endured long past its expiration date. Due to my baseless prejudice, I’ve avoided Press 195 (195 Fifth Ave between Berkeley Pl and Union St, Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-857-1950) like swine flu, and practically missed out on the best beer I’ve tasted in ages. Following a recent renovation, however, Press 195 started to glow in a gorgeous new light. Near the front door sits a handsome bar featuring inviting window perches overlooking Fifth Avenue, a serene, shaded patio and most importantly, six microbrew taps. I popped in one eve and unexpectedly experienced love at first sip. Yes, I changed my tune on pressed sandwiches (the homemade roasted-pork Cubano was a marvel), but I was more enamored of the beautifully bitter Landin Ales Outrage IPA ($5.50; Mon–Fri 4–7pm $3.50). The limited-release quaff is the brainstorm of relative unknown Kenny Landin, a loyal Press customer at its Bayside, Queens, branch. In his commercial debut, produced in conjunction with upstate New York’s Butternuts brewery, Landin has developed an irresistible caramel-sweet brew with a snappy finish and floral hops that leaves behind a resiny bitterness long after I’ve polished off my pint. At least once weekly I venture to Press, take my customary window seat and order a tangle of Belgian fries and 16 ounces of copper-orange Outrage. Who knew being open-minded could taste this good? Just don’t expect to see me ordering a veggie wrap anytime soon.—Joshua M. Bernstein

24/Seven Blog loves Press 195!

Now that summer is over I can catch up on all the great mentions Press 195 received recently. Here is an excellent write-up in one of Brooklyn's top blogs, 24/Seven from July of 2009.

To quote:
"As for catering and our final word, I will quote from their own verbiage, which I could not state better myself: “Tired of lousy subs, tasteless chicken marsala and flavorless ziti? Experience Press 195 catering.” The next party I give? The food will be coming from this kitchen."

Great Press 195 mention from overseas!

Just got word from my good friend Bobby in London that we were mentioned in the famous paper 'The Guardian." The British author Annabelle Thorpe visits the favorite neighborhood haunts of five clued-up locals for a fascinating new take on a city she thought she knew. Read below for an excerpt or click here for the full article:

Hesu Coue-Wilson

Lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She is a journalist and has two children, Helena, seven, and Clementine, three.

Hesu Coue-Wilson and family in New York Hesu Coue-Wilson at Papbubble

The best place to head for on a Saturday morning is the Brooklyn Farmers' Market at Grand Army Plaza; get ridiculously cheap and fresh oysters from the fish folk who come straight from Montauk with the morning's catch.

Press 195 (195 Fifth Avenue; press195.com) is a great spot for lunch (try the squash with chipotle chilli) and ideal for stoking up before a walk through Prospect Park. Walk far enough and you can find sections that feel lost and bucolic and very different from Central Park, where you can never really forget you are in the middle of a vast city. If you fancy a bike ride, it's a great wheel from Grand Army Plaza to Coney Island.

If I'm heading into Manhattan for lunch, Chinatown is always a good bet; Jing Fong (20 Elizabeth St) looks and sounds like a noisy airport lounge but the food is incredible. After that, head to Papabubble (380a Broome St; papabubble.com); it's a candy store where they pound, stretch and cool the candy in front of your eyes.

June 09: Short and Sweet

Nothing ties together great music in the park and good times better than a Press 195 sandwich! The Short and Sweet blog loves to "Pair events with food and drinks in NYC neighborhoods" and pair they did as they feature yours truly along with the David Byrne (Talking Heads)! Below is an excerpt from the article. Click here for the full write-up!

"The theme at Press 195 is pressed comfort food. A sandwich shop with quite the menu, they offer 30 types of delicious sandwiches like the turkey and fontina cheese sandwich with a cranberry and roasted pear chutney on ciabatta ($7.75)"

NY PRESS Mention May 26, 2009

Yes Yes Y'all NY PRESS hooked us up with some kind words when they mentioned us in their Summer 2009 gude. Check it here...

what they say......

June 16th 2009 New Review!

Hey now, greeting from a humid NYC! Things at Press 195 have been rolling along quite well. The introduction at both stores to new salads, appetizers and burgers have been a huge hit. Yes people are enjoying our 1/2lb burgers on brioche rolls. Not had one yet? Get down and dig in! Scouring the web this week, I came across a solid review on the blog "Namaste, a NYC girl trying to find her zen."

Here is the review:

YUMS What A Salad!

Wow I never gush over a salad but this one deserves the praise. We ordered food from Press 195 which were named "Sandwich Kings of Brooklyn" by the Food Network. We were lucky enough that they opened a second location near us; which is where I always get my Cuban Sandwiches from. Since today is Protein Day, I had to shy away from beloved Cuban and try one of the Salads and I am so lucky that I did. I ordered the Chicken Avocado Salad which was Mixed greens with marinated chicken, crispy bacon, sliced egg, avocado, tomato, onion and a creamy cilantro-lime dressing. I omitted the Cilantro Lime dressing since I am not a fan of Cilantro but asked them to put Chipotle Jalapeno Mayo on the side.

The salad was so full of flavor that I barely had to use the side of dressing but I still did since it is also very good. I am not sure what the chicken was marinated in but it was delicious. They sent two Grilled Bread Rounds which I tried to resist but ended up eating one (oops); it complimented the meal.

The salad was pretty big so I tossed out a lot of the greens but made sure that I picked out all the Avocado first ha

If you are in the NY area, you should definitely check out Press 195; they have a great variety of items on the menu and I am sure you will find something that will make you go back for more.

Current news March 21st 2009

Spring is finally here and there is much happening in the Press 195 world. For both stores, we have re-launched our website www.press195.com with links to several new blogs that we hope will provide much more up to date information for our food, beer, events, etc. And, in our "In the News" blog there is the ability to sign up for e-mail alerts whenever there is news posted. Please take a moment and sign up! Or click here.... Also, with the weather starting to steadily warm, we are almost ready for backyard dining season, and we are all excited for this!

At out Bayside, Queens store there is much to talk about...

First, our St. Patrick's day party here was a big success as there were many laughs between friends, new and old. Our new menu items (burgers, wings, fingers, salads) have been a huge success and there has been much talk about our burger being a contender for best of the block. With much burger competition around here, that made us happy to hear. Beer wise, we are continuing to bring in new specialties every week. Our beer blog is continually updated with whatever is new for the week. The newest on the taps is Kidd Lager from Ft. Collins brewery in Colorado, a twist on the classic Schwarzbier or black beer. Dark but a light body, this is a perfect Spring beer. Finally, we are keeping a close eye on the weather as we are very close to opening our backyard patio and will keep everybody posted at to the opening day.

At our Park Slope, Brooklyn store there is also much to talk about...

We are weeks away from the grand re-opening of the Park Slope store. Every singe thing is done except for the approval from our friends at the Dept. of Buildings and the installation of our gas meter (which can't be done till Dept. Buildings approves us) Yes, it is much bureaucratic nonsense but we will get past it shortly. All our past customers will be shocked when the doors open in mid-April. From the tiled walls and floors to the new kitchen and bar, we are very excited to unveil the 1 year in the making project we call Press 195 version 2.0!! Below are pictures of the construction from last week.

As always, thanks for the continued support. Any questions or comments? Please reach us at press195@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Park Slope Brooklyn Renovation Update 3/2/09

March 2nd, 2009

Greetings. Hope all are enjoying the winter snow.

As we are now learning more and more, the city govt. agencies are truly threatening to the lively hood of small businesses. Yes, we would be ready to open in two weeks but the Dept. of Buildings are lacking personnel so of course they are behind schedule and have delayed us another two weeks as we await their arrival for the final inspection. We are working around the clock because we want to open as soon as possible.

In good news, we have been approved for our full liquor license so look out for sandwiches and martinis!

We will continue to update the site as soon as new news is available. Any questions, please contact us at press195@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Yet Another Positive Review of Bayside Press 195!

Scrolling through web search engines for Press 195 related articles earlier today, I just came across a great blog article from Spring 2008 in regards to our Bayside location. The blog, entitled Trouvant Machanson, gave us a positive review and really nailed the focus of Press 195....

ahhhh freshness, what we strive for here at Press 195!
"Everything on the menu at Press 195 has a unique touch. The maple pesto spread uses maple syrup from Ashland Farms in Prattsville, NY and their honey jalapeno sauce is made with honey from Traphagen's Honey Farm in Hunter, NY. I love their use of local produce and I feel I can taste the freshness."

thoughts to warm you up on this frigid day....
Imagine sitting in their backyard garden at a picnic table eating all this deliciousness...it's the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Press 195 Holiday Party 2008!

Bayside Press 195 December Update

Press 195 --- "Great food, real beer, no bull"

Hola amigos! It’s official, winter is here as Bayside saw it’s first snowflakes! The cold weather can only mean one thing, comfort food and drink… and that’s what we are all about here at Press 195.

First, the annual Press 195 holiday costume party is fast approaching. Clear your calendars for Saturday Dec. 20th as you are all invited! We will have an open bar from 10pm-11pm, a DJ playing some funky holiday jams and of course good times and good friends..
.

In beer news, our taps continue to rotate as we clearly take our stance as being the beer experts on Bell Blvd. Beer highlights of this week include a very limited Jewbelation 12. From the makers of HeBrew comes this very strong brown ale (12% abv) that is brewed with 12 different hops and 12 different malts. Try a glass before it disappears till next season. Also new to the tap is Krusovice Dark. It takes a special European beer to make it onto our draft lines and this Czech offering makes the cut! This is a classic German style Schwarzbier, or dark lager. One taste and you will be planning your next trip to Praque!

In further beer news, we are currently planning our next brewery event for January 15th or Jan 22nd, tbd in the next week. Our last party for Outrage Ale was a huge success as the beer was flowing and the acoustic sounds of Matt Phillips got everybody moving. Outrage Ale is still available on tap so stop in, grab a pint, and see what the buzz is all about.

Food wise, our new Press Burger continues to wow customers. Come on in and give it a whirl, you will be very pleased!

Holiday gifts, office parties, family events? Let Press 195 help you out. We have gift certificates available, they make perfect presents for family, friends, co-workers, babysitters, etc... And, if you are planning a party, let Press 195 catering be your solution. We can provide a perfect unique, tasty and simple solution for your catering needs. Click here for the catering menu!

New Year's eve? Looking to have a party, contact us at press195@yahoo.com We are currently seeking to rent out our location for private parties. We can accommodate up to 70 people and packages will include barstaff, bouncers, etc... The only thing you would need to do is invite your friends and family. THE SHINING STARS OF BELL BLVD. Great review from food blog "Blondie and Brownie"

"The use of fresh ingredients make the sandwiches and salads extra tasty, and the sandwiches aren't overloaded so you never deal with insides falling out. There is also a good selection of beer and wine, including Magic Hat #9 aka my fave beer, as well as some desserts; surprisingly, I've never had any of their desserts, I'm usually too full at that point."

YET ANOTHER NEW YORK TIMES FEATURE!

April 2008

"The Next Best Things in Sliced Bread" Featured in the internationally distributed NY Time's Dining Out Section is none other than Press 195. The article focused on 7 NYC sandwiches which people love, but are not considered traditional. Our famous pressed knish sandwich was chosen amongst the 7 described. We could not be more proud and if you have never tried one, what are you waiting for! Below is an excerpt, click here for the full article.

KNISH PRESS
The owners of Press 195, a sandwich joint with stores in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and Bayside, Queens, may have avoided putting the word “panini” on the menu. Nonetheless their futures are staked to pressed sandwiches: they have more than 30 on the menu. “Every deli in New York has panini now,” said an owner, Chris Evans, who grew up flipping burgers at the estimable Donovan’s Pub. But what the delis don’t have — yet — is the knish press: a sandwich built on a split potato knish, the brainchild of Brian Karp, the chef and co-owner.
Squeezed in the hot press, the knish’s crust becomes thick and crunchy, and the peppery, onion-tinged mashed potato inside melts into the filling. The pastrami version is thought-provoking, but even better is London broil with gobs of spicy brown mustard and an “onion jam” that takes you right back to the hot dog cart. The knishes are brought in daily from Gabila’s in Coney Island. These square, deep-fried specimens are generally considered inauthentic by knish purists, who prefer them round and doughy, but this is an excellent use for them. “When we got to a certain level of production, Gabila’s agreed to supply us fresh, not frozen,” Mr. Evans said. “That was the day we felt like we made it.” Order it well-done and be prepared to wait.

"This place is tasty and fast. I like it. The American with out turkey...add onions, is awesome. It is a tastier and more appealing version on the roast beef sandwich at Panera. Everything comes with a side of cucumber salad. There are not fatty (and delicious) sides to order so it is a good place to visit if you are trying to avoid mayonnaise! The service was very fast but I was not rushed to leave even though I was only a party of one at a table for two.The waitress was super friendly and even helped with directions. I will be back!"

"These pressed sandwiches were like the hug that any weary West Coaster traveling through Brooklyn needs. The location is tres cute, with a patio out back. I had the #3 Turkey, Fresh Mozzarella grilled mushrooms and sweet onion jam, pressed into Ciabatta bread, served warm with a diet coke. IT was deeeeeelsih! My buddy had the #2 which I also got to taste and it was delightful as well."

"I should clarify that the 5 stars here are really 4.5. The lil half is lost because the service was sort of so-so but the food was so delicious it has won be over despite the less than great waiter. I am not a sandwich person. Probably because my mother made sandwiches for me all throughout high school and because I worked at the sandwich counter in college for awhile. Sandwich usually are the last thing on my yummy list but my bf insisted this place was worth it so we went. Got the coveted window seat so I could make faces at the people passing by who stared at my food and we started with a pitcher of sangria. Yum! Followed by the butternut squash soup (thick and creamy) and then I had the Grilled Eggplant with Roasted Red Pepper, smoked Gouda and garlic spread. Delicious! I also got to taste my bf's Turkey and Fontina with Chutney and Roasted Pear. Also a great choice (though not as good as mine hehe!).This sandwich inspired me to try to turn my George Foreman into a panini press because I'm too cheap to buy a real panini press. It inspired me to go out and buy sandwich ingredients. In the end mine was not as good but I'll always remember this sandwich with fond memories :-)"

"Absolutely Delicious" says computer site Broadbandreports.com...

March 2008
Computer website broadbandreports.com mentions Press 195 Park Slope in one of their tech forums, even geeks love our sandwiches!! Haha....read an excerpt below or click here for the full article.

Absolutely delicious sandwiches--they use the "press" (like on those yummy cuban sandwiches) with all kinds of delicious ingredients (my own favorite, custom designed by me, is grilled chicken with sweet onion jam, garlic spread, sun-dried tomatos and artichoke hearts). So you get a crispy, crunchy, bread, slightly flattened, with warm ingredients. Beer and wine, and good music (satellite radio!) and a patio in the back.

Great New York Press Mention

February 2006
Local city guide features an article on Keegan Ale's and mentions how Bayside's Press 195 is the first to disribute their flagship Mother's Milk stout beer. Well, it's true as Tommy Keegan is a friend of Press 195 and once the beer was kegged we just had to pour this delicious nectar. Read below for an excerpt or click here for the full article.

"Plus, its New York City market infiltration is relegated to Bayside in Queens at Press 195, and that’s because the owner buys kegs at the microbrewery."

Press 195: More of a snackery by day, this bright, cozy Slope sandwich shop draws the café crowd for lunch and dinner. There’s no brunch at this no-frills shop, but then again, you usually don’t roll out of bed until 3pm anyway. With its cafeteria-chic vibe and Keller Williams jams in the background, locals come for quick bites, cheap-ish wine, and low-profile noshing. Yes, of course the Slope families and stroller pushers dominate—but even the skinny jeans kids can’t resist choosing from 30-plus pressed sandwiches while chilling in the outdoor garden with a glass of red.

of the 30 panini at Press 195 (No. 195; 718/857-1950; lunch for two $16) makes an ideal snack. There's even a pressed Nutella-and-banana sandwich with vanilla ice cream for dessert. —Hillary Geronemus

The NY Daily News Chooses Press 195 for the sandwich of the week!

September 2006
"What happens when a couple of "neighborhood guys" - as Press 195 co-owner Brian Karp puts it - open sandwich shops? Good things, like great beers, a laid-back feel and real roast pork. Try it on their "#9" for $8.25 or, now, just make your own. It's sultry and spicy and squishy inside, the perfect trio, as far as we're concerned." Click here for the full article.

December 2005: Bayside Press 195 receives first review, and it's GOOD!!!

"Press 195 has managed to make their small space feel light and breezy rather than cramped. There is some first-rate art on the walls to distract from the narrowness of the space. Come the nice weather, they will also be serving in their backyard garden."

"Choosing a sandwich from the line-up is a real challenge."

"We finally settled on Bresaola, shaved Parmesan Reggiano and grilled asparagus with fresh lemon and roasted garlic spread. Each ingredient was fresh tasting and robust enough to command its own share of attention. A very successful combination."

TimeOut magazine declares the Bayside Press 195 Open!!

November 17, 2005 As the doors to the Bayside Press 195 restaurant open on November 15th 2005, TimeOut magazine, NYC's premier guide to whats going on, features our store. Below is the excerpt regarding Press 195, click here to read the full article.

Pressing on After cementing a reputation three years ago as Park Slope's primary panino purveyors, the owners of Press 195 are ready to conquer a new borough. This week, they're opening a second location in Bayside, Queens. In addition to the original sandwiches made famous at the Brooklyn shop—like pork loin with roasted garlic, jalapeño and cilantro (pictured)—chef Brian Karp will prepare a rotating selection of small plates driven by Hudson Valley ingredients. Serious beer drinkers can ask for a growler (a four-pint jug) of Keegan Ale—also brewed upstate.—Heather Tierney

October 2005: New Sandwich Shop Coming To Bell Blvd.

October 2005 The excitement is building in the Bayside area and the local paper, TimesLedger, features Press 195 in a major article discussing the opening, our roots, and much more. Read below an excerpt and click here for the full article.

Baysiders can't blink these days without another restaurant opening on Bell Boulevard, it seems. But later this month, the trio behind the successful Brooklyn sandwich bar Press 195 hopes to catch the eyes of Queens diners with a new location at 40-11 Bell Blvd. Chef Brian Karp and manager Chris Evans, a Bayside native, said they decided to expand their successful Park Slope operation to what is fast becoming Queens's "restaurant row" because their pressed sandwich formula can offer diners something different."We're unique here," Karp said, citing the planned array of micro brews, vegetarian items and organic bread from Manhattan's gourmet Sullivan Street Bakery. "There's no place on Bell Boulevard where you're going to get a pressed knish sandwich."

Future home of Bayside Press 195...

July 2005 Bell Blvd. Becoming Dining Mecca

July 2005 Ground has been broken in Bayside, Queens for the build out of the second Press 195 restaurant. With more room, the new store will feature a full liquor licence and 8 beers on tap. Of course, what made the Brooklyn location famous will still be featured, great sandwiches, outdoor space and fresh ingredients. Below is an excerpt from the paper or click here to read the entire article.

"Down the street at 40-11 Bell Blvd., Brian Karp was in the midst of tearing down hair dryers and wall mirrors that belonged to the previous tenant, Hercules salon, to make way for Press 195's sandwich presses and full wine bar. "We want to be something different," Karp said. "Every thing's the same around here, it seems. We're going to do Hudson Valley cuisine and offer microbrews."Asked why he chose Bayside as the second location for his trendy Brooklyn-based restaurant, Karp said "it's becoming much more of a destination for food. People in Bayside don't want to have to travel to Manhattan for good food."
